HANKSITE

Location: Searles Lake, California
Each year as the water within the lake evaporates, deposits remaining crystallize into the mineral Hanksite. The color is typically yellow-green, and the crystals are translucent. It is important that these crystals are not exposed to water or moisture for long periods - even high humidity can degrade the crystals. We recommend you simply rub some mineral oil into the surface occassionally, and store the crystals in a plastic bag. Hanksite makes a fine addition to a mineral collection, due its unique characteristics.
